IF DIESEL ENGINES ARE MORE EFFICIENT THEN WHY DO MOST CARS AND BIKES HAVE GASOLINE ENGINES?



Ans.-
Due to following reasons:-

1. Diesel engines, because they have much higher compression
ratios (20:1 for a typical diesel v/s. 8:1 for a typical gasoline
engine), tend to be heavier than an equivalent gasoline engine.

2. Diesel engines also tend to be more expensive.

3. Diesel engines must be fuel injected, and in the past fuel
injection was expensive and less reliable.

4. Diesel engines tend to produce more smoke and "smell funny."

5. Diesel engines are much noisier and tend to vibrate.

6. Knocking in diesel engines is more as compare to gasoline
engines.



What is 'CC' of a bike? How does it matter?


CC or cubic centimeters refers to engine capacity. Specifically it refers to the amount of air/fuel mixture able to fit into the cylinders (where combustion occurs) at full expansion. 1 cc is equivalent to 1 gram of water aka 1 ml. An example: 250 cc engine means the cylinders with pistons at full expansion can hold a volume of 250 ml of air/fuel mixture prior to the combustion stroke. Larger the CC larger is the power.

What is a HOT BULB ENGINE?


The hot bulb engine, or hotbulb or heavy oil engine is a type of internal combustion engine. It is an engine in which fuel is ignited by being brought into contact with a red-hot metal surface inside a bulb followed by the introduction of air (oxygen) compressed into the hot bulb chamber by the rising piston. There is some ignition when the fuel is introduced but it quickly uses up the available oxygen in the bulb. Vigorous ignition takes place only when sufficient oxygen is supplied to the hot bulb chamber on the compression stroke of the engine.

Most hot bulb engines were produced as one-cylinder low-speed two-stroke crankcase scavenging units.


What is a BEAM ENGINE?

The beam engine is a type of steam engine which was used to draw out water from mines,as well as to pump water into canals.The engine consisted of a large wooden frame into which a pivoted overhead beam was used to apply force generated by a vertical piston and transfer that movement to a pump rod.

The piston's movement was driven by a coal-heated boiler which generated steam and fed it into the piston's cylinder.

When the piston was at its apex-moving the beam and dropping the pump rod-the cylinder was injected with cold water creating condensation and eventually a vacuum,thereby drawing the piston down and raising the pump rod again in a cycle..

WHAT IS OIL FILTER ?



An oil filter is a filter designed to remove contaminants from engine oil, transmission oil, lubricating oil, or hydraulic oil. Oil filters are used in many different types of hydraulic machinery. A chief use of the oil filter is in internal-combustion engines in on- and off-road motor vehicles, light aircraft, and various naval vessels. Other vehicle hydraulic systems, such as those in automatic transmissions and power steering, are often equipped with an oil filter. Gas turbine engines, such as those on jet aircraft, also require the use of oil filters. Aside from these uses, oil production, transport, and recycling facilities also employ filters in the manufacturing process.

TURBOPROP ENGINE:-


A turboprop engine is a type of turbine engine which drives an aircraft propeller using a reduction gear.

The gas turbine is designed specifically for this application, with almost all of its output being used to drive the propeller attached at the front of the engine.

The engine's exhaust gases do not contain enough energy as compared to a jet engine, to create significant thrust in the propulsion of the aircraft.

The propeller is coupled to the turbine through a reduction gear that converts the high RPM, low torque output to low RPM, high torque.

Because of improvements in turbojet design, the turboprop, which is less efficient at high speeds, lost much of its importance in the 1960s, though it is still used for relatively short-range aircraft.
