Types of gear and their use

A gearbox is a system that basically transmits power from a main cog, otherwise known as the prime cog, to other cogs of different sizes depending on the amount of power or torque needed. 

The gearbox acts as a gear oil container and a protective shield to the gears and lubricants from destructive elements such as dust and other debris.
